The saga that took the beauty world with a storm this week? Patrick Ta’s new Eye Shadow Duos. Now, you may be thinking, how the heck can an eyeshadow launch cause controversy? Here’s the lowdown: Patrick Ta announced the launch, and some TikTok users The price of $42 for two colors was beyond them. Patrick arrived with receipts, comparing the price with other brands and explaining the top-tier quality of his product. Oh, and BeautyTok creators Mikayla Nogueria and Jeffree Star were naturally involved with their comments. Now, if that’s a lot to take in and you just want to know if the eyeshadow is worth the price, that’s where I come in.
I, a shopping editor who has tried hundreds of products and has no brand sponsorship, tested the eyeshadows in the name of beauty journalism. No filters, no ads, and definitely no professional makeup artist skills.
Ahead, my unfiltered thoughts and official review of the new Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eye Illusion Eyeshadow Duos. (That’s a mouthful.)
Eyeshadow Duo Talk To My Team
I really liked the “Talk to My Team” shade. As someone who prefers using my fingers over a brush (due to my lack of makeup skills), I found that the formula transferred to my cover so easily. In the pan the color looked a bit more pink but had a surprisingly orange reflection at certain angles – which I’m not complaining about as it looked like I’d deliberately added a multi-chromatic effect without any effort. And in direct sunlight, my entire eye looked too shimmery and sunset. The application was so easy and has a professional edge.
I love that too comes with a mirror (unlike other single-shade pots) so I didn’t blindly apply and hope for the best. However, during the day, I found that there was some fall into my eyelashes. It didn’t affect the pigmentation on my lid, which is definitely something I notice with most of my glitter shadows, but it was enough to notice.
Eyeshadow Duo Still At The Club
“I’ve worn eyeshadow almost every day of my life since I was 17, so I’m very particular about eyeshadow quality,” says associate shopping editor Meg Uy. “Overall, I loved the Still In The Club palette. It has a purple and brown hue created by a subtle smoke eye on my warm-toned brown skin. It feels quite light on the lid and the pigment is solid and still construction. I like that the shimmer is not too intense, and you can take it to the next level with a few extra layers for a totally glam look. The expensive price is the only thing that stops me from giving it a full 10/10, but I really liked it and will definitely be using it again!”
Eyeshadow Duo Do You Know Who I Am
“I swept the shadow deeper on the Do you know who I am duo all over my eyelid and the lighter shade popped in the inner corners, then a bit of the purple color came off the Still At The Club duo to the outer belt to darken the look,” explains the shopping editor Hannah Oh. “It was really easy to get a good amount of color with my finger, although I think it would have looked better if I had used a primer and a brush, and the color choices were really beautiful.”
“To be honest, the glitter wasn’t as smooth as I expected and there was a decent amount of fall out within 3-4 hours (again, without primer) which I wiped off in the office bathroom, but the eye shadow stood up nicely! I probably won’t be pulling up to work with a glitter smoky eye on the reg but it’s definitely a super luxe, gorgeous product for days when I want to go with my makeup.”
Eyeshadow Duo We Need Better Lighting
“Next is the color of this. Level. I did a very low effort moment here and swiped the product directly on my eyelid with my finger,” says the associate editor Daisy Maldonado. “It only took two passes to fully achieve the desired color. The silver shadow i We Need Better Lighting looks luminous and has a super gorgeous glow. I love that this shade can double as a subtle everyday look and a moment enhancer for special occasions.”
Advantages
- It applies easily to the fingers
- Doubles as a highlight
- Very colorful
- Great color options
Cons
- On the pricier side
- The palettes are not customizable
The bottom line…
If you’re looking for a quality glitter shade, Patrick Ta’s version yes that girl. And while two shades for $42 is pretty expensive, it’s comparable to other luxe beauty brands like Charlotte Tilbury (one shade is $35) or Hourglass (one shade is $30). We also liked all the color options, but wished we had the ability to mix and match different colors in a custom palette built to our liking. Overall, if you want a shimmer that’s easy to apply and are willing to splurge for a more full glam and night look, Cosmo on shopping team would recommend these viral duos.
